Excellence in research at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) by Developmental and Reproductive Biology (DRB) Graduate Program Students was on display at the Institute for Biogenesis Research (IBR) last week. Twelve students (7 PhD and 5 MS) presented their work.

The topics covered various aspects of reproductive and developmental biology, such as infertility, sex determination, stem cells, transgenesis, fertilization, embryo development, assisted reproduction technologies, and more. Faculty from the IBR, Anatomy, Biochemistry & Physiology (ABH) and Cell and Molecular Biology departments were in attendance, as well as Krystyna Aune, Dean of the Graduate Education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and Mariana Gerschenson, the JABSOM Director of Graduate Programs.

“The meeting was highly successful, with collegial atmosphere and vivid discussions,” said Monika Ward, PhD, Professor at the IBR. “The students’ presentations were top-notch, both in respect to power point presentation quality and its oral delivery,” she said.

Five students were recognized as the best with monetary awards:
