Seven University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa (UHM) students interested in the health sciences joined more than 9,000 other students (from high schools and colleges) at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) 40th National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee from June 21 to June 25. During the conference, UH Mānoa students in HOSA competed with college students across the nation and came away with numerous awards.
Aprilei Ramirez, who graduated from UH Mānoa Public Health in May, finished first in the country in the Job Seeking Skills competition. In this event, participants submitted a cover letter and resume in advance for a job that they recently applied to. They were interviewed as part of the skills event to determine their qualifications, ability to grow in the position, and their poise during the interview. Aprilei’s confidence and sincerity during the interview clinched the gold medal.
