Twelve new students have entered the Class of 2016-15 in the ʻImi Ho’ōla Post-Baccalaureate Program, one of the most successful programs in the country to promote diversity in medicine.

If they complete the next grueling 12 months of intensive preparation for medical school study, they will earn admission to the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine MD Class of 2021.

The students will be paid stipends for the next year through the generosity of The Queen’s Health Systems, so that they can study full-time to give them the best chance for success.

The ʻImi Ho’ōla Post-Baccalaureate Program accepts promising applicants who come from socially or culturally disadvantaged communities or underserved areas. More than 250 MDs serving in Hawai’i and the Pacific succeeded in medical school after completing the ‘Imi program.
