Henry “Hank” Alison Morrow
1940-2016

Story and Photos provided by the Morrow Family

He was born in a small town in Wisconsin to Dorothy and Theron Morrow on August 25, 1940. He was three when they left that little town and went to live on Long Island, New York. A few years later they moved to Davenport, Iowa and then to Rock Island, Illinois. Later they went back to the East coast and lived in White Plains, New York before finally settling on Mercer Island in Washington.

As a young man he attended Lewis and Clark College in Oregon where he met Mary Jo Wink and they were soon married. After graduating he was hired by the University of Hawaii to work as a Research Assistant for the Department of Anatomy in Honolulu. He and Mary Jo moved to Hawaii, where they were blessed with their son, Ben.

Then began a wonderful period of his life. A group of young men and their wives came together to become close friends. They bought an old boat from Hawaiian Electric and fixed it up and named it the Kaneohe Queen. They would take the “Queen” out to the sandbar on most weekends. They were healthy and strong, fishing and diving and cooking on the beach. I remember their endless laughter. This special group of men remained loyal friends to the end of their day.

In his later years he hiked and rafted in Europe, Tibet and New Zealand. When he returned from a trip he would start to plan the next trip.

He died at home in Honolulu in September after a battle with cancer.

He will always be part of us. We carry him in our hearts.
