(HILO, HAWAIʻI) Hilo may just be Hawaiʻi’s best-kept secret. No traffic, balmy weather, a tight-knit community and a lot of JABSOM Alums. On May 11th, Dean Hedges hosted an energetic group of JABSOM Hilo Alums at the Hilo Bay Café. It’s been a long time since the Alumni Office has visited our Hilo family and we know we’ll be back.
When asked to recall favorite memories of their days at JABSOM, the responses were varied. For some it was a time of no sleep, playing music with fellow classmates during their downtime and others recalled working their way through school with a newborn baby. The reflections may have varied, but the fondness for JABSOM and what their education has meant to them and their community is constant.
Hilo may have a reputation for being a sleepy town, but the healthcare community has been hard at work, building the pipeline for future physicians, bringing JABSOM students to experience working in a rural community and opening doors for residents to hopefully make Hilo a permanent stop. Stay tuned for more news from Hilo.
