One in eight women in the U.S. will get breast cancer. But there is hope. Since 1980, the five-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer (cancer confined to the breast) has gone up from 74 percent to 99 percent! This progress was made with your continued support.
Once again there is a Komen for the Cure Race Team at the John A. Burns School of Medcine (JABSOM). To sign-up for the team or to make a donation to our team, please click HERE.
The team will also be selling T-shirts to help raise funds for the cause. Shirts are $20 (non-team member) or $15 (race team member). You can get a FREE T-shirt if you raise $50 or more for the cause. T-shirt orders need to be received by Friday, Sept 25.
JABSOM Breast Cancer Awareness Day is on Friday, October 2 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm in the Medical Education Building lobby. Please try to wear PINK that day to show your support for Breast Cancer Survivors!
The team will be selling yummy pink treats in a bake sale to help raise funds for the Susan G Komen Foundation.
More about the Race for the Cure

Some of our team in 2013 helping to sell “For the Cure” goodies.
The race (a one-mile walk or a five-mile walk or run) begins at 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 18 at Kap’iolani Park. Individual and Teams Packet pick-up is at Ward Warehouse, Kaka’ako Conference Room, on the 2nd floor. Scheduled times are 3:00-7:00 pm from October 15-October 16, and 9:00 am-1:00 pm on October 17, 2015. Team Captains may designate someone else to pick up for them, but an entire team must be picked up by this designated person. Komen has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer – transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. This progress was made with your continued support and together we can reach our vision of a world without breast cancer.
