The National Resident Matching Program (NMRP) expects the 2018 Main Residency Match to be the largest in history, exceeding the more than 43,000 applicants who registered for the 2017.
At the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), 63 seniors in the MD Class of 2018 learned today around 5 a.m. whether they had matched in the first round of the 2018 Match. But they only found out that they matched somewhere in the United States. They do not get to learn WHICH PROGRAM or WHERE they matched until this Friday, March 16, on Match Day. All applicants in the 2018 Match learn simultaneously in ceremonies that begin at 12 noon EST, or around 6 a.m., Hawaiʻi Time. That is when they will know for sure WHERE they will train for the next three to seven years as “MD Residents.”
Hey, MD 2018: Remember how much applause you received, MD 2018, when you were introduced to the audience at your White Coat Ceremony in 2014? We remember! Here is a short take:
Now imagine what lies ahead! Finally on Friday, a little after 6 a.m. Hawaiʻi Time, in the JABSOM Auditorium, you will be allowed to tear open those “envelopes” containing the name and place of the program you “matched” into.
The John A. Burns School of Medicine Communications Office will cover “The Match” on its social media channels (see icon-links at the end of this page!), on our You Tube Channel, as well as here on UH Med Now. The NRMP, American Medical Association (AMA), and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) are hosting online Match Week celebrations on Tagboard and on YouTube, where Match participants and the medical education community will post pictures, videos, and congratulatory messages. The #Match2017 joint celebration was a top trend on Twitter on Match Day 2017.
