Two graduate students from the University of Hawaiʻi medical school’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) have been awarded diversity scholarships.

Ting-Ting Hsu has been named the recipient of the East-West Center Gary S.H. Lin Graduate Degree Fellowship. The 24-month fellowship allows students, who must be from Taiwan, to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UH Manoa). Only students studying at UH from Taiwan are eligible for this award.

Hsu’s fellowship includes tuition and fees, housing in the East-West Center dormitory, health insurance and partial living allowance. In addition, she is required to partake in the programs provided by the UH Mānoa East-West Center.

Ansley Davis has received a scholarship from the National Black Association of Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) in partnership with Let’s Talk Therapy, which is intended to support a student interested in owning and operating a private practice. The scholarship covers the costs of professional and educational expenses, such as clinical material, tuition, business cards and other fees. Davis will receive her $1,500 honorarium at the NBASLH Annual Convention in Washington D.C. later this April.

About the John A. Burns School of Medicine Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Now in its 62nd year, the University of Hawai‘i Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program has trained graduates around the globe, working throughout the Pacific Basin, across the Continental U.S., through the Caribbean and in Europe. CSD currently offers a Master of Science degree with a major in speech pathology. The CSD graduate program is accredited (2012-2020) by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Candidates who are interested in joining our graduate CSD program are encouraged to review our updated CSD website regarding the current admission criteria and requirements.

CSD also offers an online CSD Certification Program (PCP) through the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and UH Mānoa Outreach College. This online program provides the foundational undergraduate CSD training required for acceptance into graduate programs for speech-language pathology or audiology in the United States. The UH CSD department does not currently offer an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in communication sciences, as all prerequisite requirements for entrance to the Master’s program are obtainable through UH Mānoa and our online PCP.
