Islands Hospice created a new scholarship for fourth-year University of Hawaiʻi (UH) medical students who plan to pursue a fellowship program in geriatric or palliative medicine.
Islands Hospice President Kevin Webb presented a $50,000 check to Dr. Kamal Masaki, Chair of the Department of Geriatric Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) at a special luncheon held at the UH Kakaako campus on May 17th.
The three scholarship recipients Kellie Kurasaki, Laura Kurata and Keolamau Yee beamed with gratitude as they met with Webb and Scott Nilsen, Community Relations at Island Hospice, and thanked them for the generous investment in their medical education.
JABSOM’s Dr. Jerris Hedges, Dean; Dr. Pat Blanchette, Associate Dean; Dr. Kristen Teranishi, Assistant Director of Student Affairs and Elaine Evans, Director of Development, also took the opportunity to personally thank the donors.
