Funding opp: Alana Dung Early Career Development Endowed Fund

Amount: $25,000

Duration: 1 year

Funds may be used by the recipient at their discretion to enhance and support the research of junior faculty at the University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine.

Funds may be used for salary support; for travel and attendance of workshops, courses, scientific or educational meetings, other universities, government agencies; support of junior faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, graduate students, and research staff personnel; research costs, including but not limited to supplies, core services, participant costs, etc. The selection committee aims to select promising junior faculty who would benefit most from the fund’s resources.

Requirements:

  • Have a John A. Burns School of Medicine faculty appointment
  • Rank of Assistant Professor/Researcher or lower
  • Submit your NIH Biosketch or Curriculum Vitae
  • Submit 1-2 page cover letter of your career progression, how you plan to contribute to JABSOM’s research portfolio and how your research relates to concerns in Hawaii’s community.
  • Submit a 1 page letter of support from Department Chair and/or UH faculty mentor of how investment in this junior faculty applicant will make an important contribution to the department and support of early career faculty at JABSOM. Preference for long-term commitment in Hawaii, independent funding support less than $150K a year, and matching contributions from department will be considerations.

    Submit #3-5 to Dr. Mariana Gerschenson at gerschen@hawaii.edu by October 1, 2018.

    Review of applications will be conducted by a Scientific Advisory Committee. Recommendations will be made to Dean Jerris Hedges for final selection.

    Two awards are anticipated to be made by November 1, 2018 or sooner by the UH Foundation. Appropriate use of funds per UH and UH foundation policies is required. No carryover of funds will be approved.
