From the University of Hawai’i:

No decisions have been made yet regarding the closures of UH campuses on Oahu due to Tropical Storm Olivia. Olivia is expected to begin impacting Oahu Wednesday morning, and there is a possibility that a campus closure announcement would come out after most employees have left work.

Out of an abundance of caution, faculty and staff should prepare their offices and facilities for a prolonged power outage before leaving today by turning off computers, printers and other electronics along with unplugging everything. Move all valuables off of the ground, back up computer files and cover electronics/furniture with plastic when possible.

From the National Weather Service:

Olivia speeds up and is closing in on the main Hawaiian islands. Increasing winds and showers expected this afternoon.

From the University of Hawai’i:

The University of Hawaii continues to closely monitor Tropical Storm Olivia, which was downgraded
from a hurricane this afternoon. As of now, all UH campuses are open Tuesday except for the UH Maui
Hana Education Center on Maui.

Currently, Olivia is forecast to bring tropical storm force winds and heavy rain to the northern
part of Hawaii Island and Maui County Tuesday night. If the storm remains on track, it could bring
tropical storm conditions to Oahu by Wednesday morning.

It is of vital importance that all students, faculty and staff keep informed of the latest
developments and prepare for the possibility of the need to shelter in place or move to a public
shelter. Prepare yourself and your families for the potential effects of the storm. Officials
recommend a 14-day emergency supply.

For those students in our residence halls, you will receive more specific communications and
instructions from your respective student housing office. However, please do not hesitate to contact
them with any questions or concerns at UH Manoa: email uhmsh@hawaii.edu; UH Hilo (808) 932-7403.
More emergency information regarding student housing at UH Manoa is also available online at:

housing is available at: https://hilo.hawaii.edu/emergency/faq.php

Please follow the National Weather Service (http://www.prh.noaa.gov/cphc/), other official agencies
and local media for the latest weather news.

As Olivia progresses, each campus will make decisions on whether to close or reopen classes and
activities depending on local conditions.

From the National Weather Service:

Damaging tropical storm force winds are expected to begin as early as Tuesday afternoon across Maui and the Big Island. Additionally, hurricane force wind gusts are possible as Olivia moves across the state Tuesday night and Wednesday.
