The Med Mele is a fundraiser for the Hawaiʻi H.O.M.E. Project, an organization at the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), that Dr. Jill Omori (JABSOM MD 1995) founded in 2005 after she noticed the influx of homeless families beginning to set up sleeping places near the medical school grounds in Kaka’ako.
The H.O.M.E. (Homeless Outreach & Medical Education) project provides free health care to homeless citizens three times a week, through a large trailer van the volunteer MD students and MD faculty employ to set up mobile clinics at more than four locations throughout Oʻahu including Honolulu, Waianae and Waialua.
All proceeds from the Med Mele will benefit the clinics and initiatives of the Hawaiʻi HOME Project.
The fundraiser on September 29, 2018, located on the campus lawn at JABSOM Kakaʻako, will set the stage for local bands including Maunalua, Hoʻokena, Ei Nei, and Ben and Maila.

“It will be a wonderful night full of Hoku award-winning music, wonderful food, hula and more. And just learning about what HOME Project does for the community and so we hope that everyone can come out and join us,” Dr. Omori said.
