The John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center announce the 5th Annual Kaka‘ako Campus Compliance Week, October 15-19, 2018. This year’s theme is “Data Security and Privacy.” The event coincides with National Cyber Security Awareness Month and Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week.

“Let’s Commit to Be Engaged in Compliance”
The purpose of the weeklong event is to engage, educate, and build a culture of compliance at JABSOM and UH Cancer Center. Organizers include key compliance staff and faculty from the Office of Risk and Clinical Affairs, Information Technology, RMATRIX, Environmental Health and Safety Office, and Human Subjects Research Compliance.

EVENTS: “Week-Long Focus on Data Security and Privacy”
Activities will be held on the Kaka‘ako campus from October 15 through October 19, 2018 for JABSOM and UH Cancer Center employees, students, and affiliates.

  • “Data security and privacy for your modern life,” a must-see presentation that applies to all of our lives. Join the UH chief information officer for a discussion on the impacts of technology that we all face in a world where everyone is connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. October 19, 12:30-1:30, Sullivan Center.
  •  

  • “UH cyberinfrastructure update,” a presentation targeted to researchers who conduct data-intensive research and require a fully integrated cyberinfrastructure support system—inclusive of high-performance computing, networking, secure data analysis, visualization, and dissemination of research results. Join the UH cyberinfrastructure director for a summary of current UH activities and plan for the future. October 19, 11-12, Sullivan Center.

  • “HIPAA and protecting health information,” is intended to be useful to those who have questions about HIPAA at UH. Join the UH system HIPAA compliance officer as he discusses HIPAA and answers your questions about protecting health information and more. October 18, 1-2, Sullivan Center.

  • “Compliance poster displays” throughout the Kaka‘ako campus featuring hot topics in data security and privacy. Displayed during the week of October 15-19.
  •  

  • “HIPAA online training annual reminder” for all JABSOM personnel performing human subjects research. Emailed during the week of October 15-19.
  •  

  • “National Cyber Security Awareness Month highlights” from JABSOM Office of Information Technology. Emailed during the month of October.
