Ryuzo Yanagimachi, PhD, known by colleagues as “Dr. Yana,” brought international acclaim to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) with his “Honolulu Technique” to create the world’s first cloned mouse. In 1998, the achievement was featured in news articles around the world.

JABSOM celebrated Yana’s 90th birthday on August 27 with the inaugural day-long Yanagimachi Symposium at the UH Cancer Center Sullivan Conference Center. Renowned researchers from all over the US and Japan participated.

Colleagues are working to establish the Yanagamachi Endowment to honor Dr. Yana’s achievements and further the mission of the Institute for Biogenesis Research.
