Rockville, MD (April 25, 2019) – The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) proudly announces its new Board of Directors for the 2019-2021 term, including the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine’s Dr. William Haning, Psychiatrist, as President-Elect. “As the nation battles to overcome the devastating impact of today’s addiction epidemic, reliable and innovative guidance from the medical community is needed more than ever.” said Paul Earley, MD, DFASAM, president of ASAM. “ASAM’s Board of Directors represents the leading physicians in addiction medicine with the medical experience and scientific knowledge necessary to guide the nation during this medical health crisis.”
The newly elected and appointed members* of the Board of Directors officially began their terms during the ASAM 50th Annual Conference on April 7, 2019 in Orlando, FL.
Said Dr. Haning (JABSOM MD 1975), “ASAM is the largest of the addiction medical specialty associations, and the oldest, publishing the Journal of Addiction Medicine, ASAM Weekly and four major textbooks; and providing education, service, and advocacy at state and national levels. Of the 6100 members, over 5000 are physicians concentrating in addictions.” Ever the student advocate, Professor Haning added that ASAM’s membership dues are waived for medical students.
