$728,877 was pledged during the 2017 Internal Giving Campaign (IGC) at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), University of Hawaiʻi.
Campaign Co-Chairs Tony Guerrero, MD of Psychiatry and Dr. Larry Burgess, Office of Student Affairs Director Larry Burgess, are both proud JABSOM alumni. And they worked hard for the campaign, making presentations at our faculty departments, which are spread out at most of Oʻahu’s medical centers, and serving as the “faces” of the internal giving campaign. Today, they helped Dean Jerris Hedges serve up free nachos, to thank those at the medical school today for their contributions. Dr. Burgess even performed a bit of a samba.

About the IGC
At JABSOM, philanthropy begins in the center of the circle: family first. Here we believe that if we are asking others to give, our ʻohana should be the first to give.
Each fall for the past ten years, JABSOM has conducted an internal giving campaign – Starting From the Inside Out – that asks faculty and staff to provide financial support for the school.
As of 2018, our “internal givers” have donated more than $3 million dollars to support the projects and programs at JABSOM that matter most to them. Mahalo!
There is a difference between being paid for the work we do – our jobs – and our personal commitment. Employee donations effectively say, “We believe in this school enough to actually invest in it ourselves, to give of our personal resources.”
The campaign, co-chaired by Psychiatry Chair Tony Guerrero, MD and Office of Student Affairs Director Larry Burgess, MD, ran from October 20 – November 20 2017.
