Pictured: The John A. Burns School of Medicine welcomes (JABSOM) 64 new physicians to the JABSOM Alumni Association. We know their hearts are dedicated to improving the health of Hawaiʻi and the world and we are proud of them!
The University of Hawaiʻi’s newest doctors graduated on May 13th and more than half of the class have chosen to continue their training on the front lines of medicine. Over 60% of the new doctors will begin their careers in primary care or primary care specialties.
Upon joining the JABSOM Alumni Association as its newest members, the Class of 2018 thanks the association for their support with a gift– and are the youngest class to ever do so.
A message from the Class of 2018:
We are extremely grateful for all the support it has been given along the way. From the encouraging staff and faculty to unconditional love from family and friends and everything in between, this journey would not have been the same without all of you. Thus, it is a long-standing tradition to celebrate with the people who helped make our successes possible at our senior lūʻau the weekend before graduation.
In preparation for our big day, we planned fundraisers as early as our first semester of medical school. After countless car washes, sweet and savory bake sales, JABSOM-attire sales, phone calls and generous donations, we celebrated the ending of a wonderful chapter as well as the beginning of a new one.
The JABSOM Alumni Association has made a tremendous contribution to the JABSOM Class of 2018 as a support system, and it’s only fitting that we were able to give back to an organization that has given us so much.
We were particularly appreciative for being sponsored by the association at the recent alumni “Casino Night” and would like to extend our sincerest mahalo. The Class of 2018 is so humble to officially be part of the JABSOM Alumni Association. It is an honor and a privilege to stand among the many who have paved the way for us, and we hope to continue to pave the way for the generations to come.
Me ka ha’aha’a (with humility) ,
The JABSOM Class of 2018
